Microsoft Azure Translation

Pricing

Translation is free for up to 2 million characters per month. If you exceed 2 million characters per month, you will be charged at a rate of $10 per million characters. The fee is charged by the Microsoft Azure platform and is unrelated to Saladict. For more details, refer to the Pricing Guide

Application Steps

The registration process is more complex compared to other translation services and requires patience.

Register an Azure Account

First, register for an Azure account. An international credit card (Visa/Master) must be linked. Registration is not possible without one.

Create Azure Translation Service

Second, create a Translator resource

  • For the region, select one closest to you. For example, Hong Kong region is East Asia. You can also select Global.
  • Choose a pricing tier based on your needs. Free users can select Free F0. The free tier doesn't support document translation. If needed, you can try the standard S1 tier.
  • For the remaining steps, simply proceed to the next step. On the final page, after deployment is complete, click the blue "Create" button at the bottom left.

Get Azure Translation Service Key

Third, after successful deployment, go to the Azure Dashboard, enter the Translator tool page, and find the keys under Keys and Endpoint in the left menu under Resource Management. Microsoft provides 2 keys - choose either one and enter it in the extension's "Settings" - "Dictionary Account" - "Azure Translation".

Below the key, there is a Location/Region information, such as eastasia, which also needs to be entered in the region field in the extension settings.

The Location/Region information is not mandatory. If you selected Global when setting up the region, you don't need to fill this in.
