PDF Text Selection

Text selection translation in PDF files

Enabling PDF Text Selection

This feature is disabled by default, and you need to manually enable it. Once enabled, PDF files will open within this extension.

  1. Open Extension Options
  2. Enable "Sniff PDF Links"
  3. To open local PDF files, you need "Allow access to file URLs" permission, which is enabled by default, so you don't need to manually enable it unless you've manually disabled it

How to Open

  • Directly access PDF file URL in the browser

  • Drag local PDF files into the browser

Option name is "Sniff PDF Links"

  • Right-click the extension icon next to the browser's address bar to see options.
  • Right-click any link on a webpage to see options.
  • Right-click anywhere on the PDF page to open the context menu and see options. (Supported in Chrome, not in Edge)
  • Set browser shortcut keys.

If the PDF is scanned or of image type with no text, translation will not work. Additionally, PDFs have no semantic meaning and only maintain style consistency. So if PDF text selection appears incorrect, first try copying the original text and pasting it into a plain text editor to verify.

Blacklist and Whitelist

PDF links matching the blacklist will not open with Saladict PDF reader and will use the browser's default PDF reader.

  1. Open Extension Options.
  2. Find "Blacklist and Whitelist"
  3. Supports both PDF blacklist and whitelist
