Learn how to use screenshot and image translation

Screenshot and image translation are supported since v9.5.2.

Screenshot Translation

You can take screenshots from webpages and translate them. Use cases include:

  • Translating images on webpages
  • Translating subtitles in videos after pausing
  • Using screenshot translation on websites that don't support text selection translation (such as Google Docs, Tencent Docs, and Shimo Docs)
  • Using screenshot translation in PDF readers

There are several ways to access screenshot translation:

  • Right-click anywhere on a webpage and select [Saladict] > [Screenshot Translation].
  • Right-click on the Saladict icon in the browser toolbar and select [Screenshot Translation].
  • Use the configured shortcut key after setting it up in the settings page.

We currently support recognizing text in images through OCR and then translating the recognized text. Therefore, you need to select the source language of the text in the screenshot each time you translate, which can improve the accuracy of image recognition. In the future, we will support direct translation of screenshots using AI, eliminating the need to select the source language.

Image Translation

You can translate any image on a webpage by right-clicking on it and selecting [Saladict] > [Image Translation]. You can also hover your mouse over any image to see the "Quick Translation" icon button in the bottom right corner of the image. Click this button to translate.

  • The quick translation button on images is disabled by default. You can enable this feature through [Settings] > [Image Translation] > [Show Quick Translation Button on Images].
  • We currently support recognizing text in images through OCR and then translating the recognized text. Therefore, you need to select the source language for image translation in [Settings] > [Image Translation] > [Image Translation Source Language], which can improve the accuracy of image recognition. In the future, we will support direct translation of images using AI, eliminating the need to select the source language.
